Viking Air has created a new aerial firefighting system that will equip the DHC-6 to fight wildfires! The Twin Otter Fire Attack System will allow the aircraft to transition easily from a passenger/cargo transport to an aerial firefighting asset, carrying an external belly tank capable of holding 6,000 pounds of fire retardant.
Kenn Borek Air is looking at the two kits that are available. One is fixed and will remain installed during all operations, and one is external and removable, allowing the aircraft to return to its original configuration. After the initial installation, the installation and removal process will take only about 4 hours to complete, which substantially increases the versatility of this already flexible aircraft, allowing enhanced wildfire fighting abilities at remote locations.
